INTRODUCTION

PROJECT 1

For project 1, we required to sculpt the character out by follow what we design on exercise 01. My character is a shark humanoid character named Lucien.

First, I start doing the blocking stage on ZBrush. This part is the same as Anatomy class, but interestingly, the human heads have been replaced with shark heads and add a tail.

Then, I start sculpting the details. To sculpt more accurate muscle lines, I found some references on Pinterest.

Based on Mr. Luqman's feedback, I added fin membranes between the fingers and reduced the number of fingers to three.

After that, I start to add more details on the muscle. The sculpting process also enhanced my understanding of muscle structure. On this part, I add the nail for the character.

After sculpting the body, I start creating the outfit. My character only has a necklace with seashells strung on it. This seashells was a bit difficult for me to sculpt. The one I tried to sculpt myself looked ugly, so in the end I followed a tutorials online.

At last, I start to do the rendering.

FINAL OUTCOME

FEEDBACK

Week 5: The leg can be more longer and try to make only three fingers. The muscles around the tail are not right, go and found some references.

Week 6: Add fin membranes between the fingers and the arms are too close to your body, open them a little bit.

Week 7: Make the calves more thicker.

REFLECTION

This project was not a particularly difficult challenge for me, as I had already learned about it in previous anatomy classes. However, there were some differences. This time, the character was not human, but a humanoid character. The differences in the head, feet, and tail were all new to me.

Through this project, I can feel that my sculpting skills have improved, my sculpting speed is faster than before, and my understanding of muscles is deeper. But I still need to work hard, the hands are still the part I find most difficult to sculpt.
