TASK 3 DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN

Sketches

I already done 3 sketches in Task 2. Out of 3 sketches, I decided to choose sketch 1 as I think it composition is best. I think this sketch best reflects the mercy of Virgin and the people who long for salvation.

Digitization

After deciding on the sketch I want to choose, I started to refine the sketch to line art in Procreate.

Rationale:

I named this work Redemption. It expresses the mercy and love of Virgin, who will save people from suffering. People kneel devoutly, praying for the mercy of the Virgin. The Virgin and the angels are located above, representing their status as superiors. Two angels surround the Virgin on the left and right, guiding people to believe in her. The background of the upper part where the Virgin and the angels are located is warm in color, while the background of the lower part where the people are located is dark in color, suggesting their identities, representing the light of divinity and the suffering of the human world.

The background uses the design principle of contrast, with bright, glowing orange clouds contrasting against the dark background and ground, drawing attention to the central figure. I added light behind the Virgin to emphasize her presence. The surrounding colors and the movements of the characters, such as the people kneeling towards her and the angel pointing to her, make her the focus. Besides, this artwork also uses the visual principle of movement. The positioning and poses of the angel and kneeling figures create a sense of directional flow toward the central figure. Direct people's attention to key figures.

FEEDBACK

Week 6
General Feedback
Add a jumplinks under your blog. This will make it easier for you to view the previous task.
Specific Feedback
For the figure, new tasks not need to start over, just continue with the previous task.

Week 7
General Feedback
Compiling all the task in one pdf and submit it on the google drive
Specific Feedback
Can add gradient to make the picture look more layered.

REFELCTION

Experience:
For this task, I learned that The painting process is very important, and the process from sketch to completed work cannot be omitted. Besides, every painting has a vision, and we need to understand what the painting means.

Observations:
I observed that everyone's artwork mean something different, and it's interesting to learn about that. We can also learn a lot by observing your classmates’ works and understand different ways of expression.

Findings:
After Task 2, I learned that we need to understand what we are drawing and what we want to express so that we can better use the painting to convey our meaning.
