Exercise 01

INTRODUCTION


EXERCISE 01

For exercise 01, we required to create a character. I decided to create a humanoid character so i first find some references on Pinterest.

After deciding on the character I wanted to create, I start rough sketches of Ideation. I picked out a few shark types I was interested in and ultimately chose the Leopard shark and name it Lucien.

I was a little confused about whether this character should have a tail. After presenting two designs to the lecturer, I decided to add a tail based on his feedback.

I created three color schemes and finally decided to use the first one based on the character's personality. The muted mauve-gray skin tone reflects Lucien’s calm intellect and deep connection to the ocean’s mysteries.

I chose this pose because Lucien is a Leopard Shark humanoid scholar who serves as the guardian of oceanic knowledge — ancient wisdom preserved beneath the shifting tides. I think this posture is in line with this characteristic of his wisdom.

For the concept art, since sharks are underwater creatures, I decided to add some underwater background.

FINAL OUTCOME


FEEDBACK

Week 2: It would be better without the tail, can try to see how it look like

Week 3: It looks a bit weird without a tail. add it.
REFLECTION

This is my first time to create a humanoid character, it's also a novel experience. I had done this when I was doing Character Design, so this exercise was not a particularly big challenge for me. But this exercise also gave me a better understanding of the process of creating characters, this process can help us complete character creation more smoothly. Besides, the design of the character needs to be combined with his personality traits and story background.
