INTRODUCTION

WEEKLY PROGRESSION

Week 1

For week 1,  we required to create a new artboard and fill it with drawing. We can draw anything so that the lecturer can understand our drawing skill.

I would like to draw the human but I am troubled by the posture of the human body, so I search some references on Pinterest.

I draw it by using Adobe Photoshop.

After that, I drew the slime from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and my kitten figure.

Then I drew two chibi characters.

I like the three brothers from One Piece, so I drew their hats.

Finally, I noticed there was an empty spot on the artboard, so I drew a head. After finishing it, I felt that the lower half of the face didn't look very good, so I added a collar to cover it.

Week 2

For week 2, we required to select a male and female model reference (with multiple poses, at least 4) for the destruction shown in class. Reconstruct them with basic forms (cube, rectangle, sphere, cylinder, etc.) to understand how proportion and volume are maintained from various perspectives. I found some references on Pinterest and put it in PS.

After that, I reconstructed them using basic forms on the photo to ensure the body shape is more accurate.

Week 3

For week 3, I learned about the structure and names of some human bones but it is not comprehensive, some bones are not marked. For this part, I read the book shared by Mr Kannan ——Anatomy For  Scultptors.

Besides, I followed Mr Kannan's tutorial to create a character block out.

Week 4

For week 4, I learned about the structure and direction of human muscles and drew the muscles of male and female. There are a lot of muscle diagrams on Pinterest, which I used to learn and find references.

Mr Kannan taught head sculpting, the general outline of the head and the structure of the skull in the tutorial.

Week 5

For week 5, I began to learn the names of muscles and understand the direction of muscles in more detail.

For sculpting, I did a detailed sculpt of Week 4's head.

Week 6

For week 6, I learned the directions and names of the leg muscles, and understood the structure of the sole of the foot.

Week 7

For week 7, we required to draw hand gestures and foot gestures. It would be better if we add the shadow.

FEEDBACK

Week 2: Add some auxiliary lines to indicate the angles and volume of the torso.

Week 3: Learn about bones in other parts of the body, such as the trunk, not just the body.

Week 4: It could be drawn in more detail. For the sculpting, show different view of the sculpt. Note that during the engraving process, you should not only focus on the front, but also pay attention to other angles such as the side.

Week 5: Adjust the thickness of the lips and add ears.

Week 7: Add shadows to give volume

REFLECTION

I have been drawing human bodies out of interest before, but this is the first time I have gained a deep understanding of the structure of the human body. I have come into contact with the human body from various angles and learned about the changes in muscles at different angles, which has improved my understanding of the human body and muscles.

For sculpting, this is my first time to sculpt and also my first time to know Zbrush. This is a new experience for me. Sculpting is different from painting. We need to pay attention to different angles at the same time. After using Zbrush for a while, I started to get the hang of it, but sculpting is still very difficult for me.
