TASK 3: EXERCISES
Proposal
In task 3, we are to create a font based on:
- Create a font that is intended to solve a larger problem/ part of a solution in the area of your interest.
- Explore existing letterforms in an area of interest.
- Experimental design

After presenting, I decided to go with the second idea, which is a font expansion from my previous task 1.

I made some adjustments to the uppercase letters to make them more consistent in angle.

To create a font, I used the software called "FontForge" to import my letterform designs.
After finalizing all the letterforms, I export the artboard on Adobe Illustrator in SVG format and import to FontForge.

Every font has a problem letter. For my font, 'f' is the problem letter. Mr. Vinod ask me to adjust the kerning between 'f' and other letter.

Font Presentation
Before starting to design my font presentation, I created a color palette that related to the tree, just like my font is the branches.

Font Application
I used Mr. mockup to find some mockup to create mockup. I chose the theme "Protect the Forest" based on my font.

FEEDBACK
Week 9
General Feedback
Organize the schedule, work hard, work fast and work smart
Specific Feedback
Can go with idea 2
Week 10
General Feedback
Continue to create lowercase letterform and numerals & punctuation as well
Specific Feedback
Adjust the angle of the letters so they are all consistent
Week 11
General Feedback
Create 5 font presentation artwork and remember to upload your work to facebook
Specific Feedback
The width of uppercase and lowercase also needs to be consistent. Can add a slash in the middle of 0 to avoid the same as O
Week 12
General Feedback
Every font has a problematic letter. The problematic letter of my font is 'f'
Specific Feedback
Need to adjust the kerning between 'f' and other letter
Week 13
General Feedback
Finalize Task 3 and Final Compilation & Reflection E-portfolio
Specific Feedback
All done
Experience:
This exercise is very similar to my Task 3 last semester and the Task 2 this semester. We need to create a font, present it and finally create some mockup. I didn't have much difficulty with this exercise because of my previous experience. What bothered me most was the font creation part. I had to make repeated revisions to ensure the uniformity of all the letters.
Observation:
I observed that fonts are very strict. The size and angle of the fonts most be consistent, and there is also a set standard for the distance between the fonts. For me, designing fonts is not very difficult. The difficulty lies in keeping the angles of all fonts consistent when digitizing. I made repeated adjustments on this step. The color palette also needs to have dark, light and neutral colors, it can't just consist of dark or light colors.
Findings:
I discovered the fun of fonts. You can design fonts in all kinds of ways, just use your imagination, but no matter how you design them, they must remain unified. The collision between the bizarre designs and the rigorous unity is both contradictory and harmonious, which I find interesting. Through this assignment, I have fully improved myself and can get started with those software more quickly. I also understand the importance of feedback.
