Reflection:

For this exercise, this was my first time using Adobe Premiere Pro software and also my first time contact with video editing. But this exercise was not complicated. It only required putting the separated videos together, which was not difficult for me. I learned how to use the new software and how to put the videos together, so this exercise was very helpful to me.

Week 2 (1.10.2024)

Editing Practise 1 (Lalin)

Fig 2.1 progress of Lalin

Fig 2.2 progress of Lalin

I first connect the plot together and shorten the time of each frame as appropriate. After editing the time, I added a fading effect to the character.

For editing practise 1, it is a bit more complicated than the previous one. It requires us to cut out unnecessary scenes and condense the video to 35 seconds. Through this exercise, I learned how to distinguish the more important scenes. Besides, the shooting practise exercise was my first time trying to shoot videos from various angles and add music to the videos. Everything was a very novel experience.

Week 3 (8.10.2024)

Fig 3.1 quiz result (week 3)

Reflection:

For week 3, we required to do audio dubbing. We need to edit the recorded audio and convert part of the audio into the tone of the opposite sex. I finally figured out how to change the tone of my voice because I would always been curious about it. Besides, it is fun to search for sound effect online. It allows me to more intuitively understand the specific sounds made by various objects.

Week 4 (15.10.2024)

Reflection:

For week 4, we create a storyboard in class. I learned that storyboard is indispensable in the early stage of shooting. It can helping filmmakers plan how scenes will be shot, including camera angles, composition, and transitions. They assist in understanding the timing of each shot and how the sequence of scenes will flow together, which is crucial for pacing the film effectively. Besides, storyboards can help identify specific locations, props, and special effects needed, which aids in budgeting and logistical planning.

Week 5 (22.10.2024)

Colour Theory, Colour Correction V.S. Colour Grading

Color correction is the first step in the post-production process where the aim is to fix or balance the colors in footage. In an ideal video setting, footage will be shot as flat and undersaturated as possible. If footage is oversaturated or too bright or dark, valuable information could be lost which can make the footage unusable. The real end goal of color correction is simply to make sure footage looks exactly the way the human eye sees things.

How to color correct in 5 steps:
  1. Normalize your footage as much as possible.
  2. Fix your saturation first.
  3. Then fix your brightness and contrast.
  4. Set your new white balance.
  5. Double check your skin tones.
Color grading comes after color correction. It’s the creative process where the footage is adjusted for stylistic purposes. This can involve changing the mood, atmosphere, and tone of the video through the use of colors. Filmmakers use color grading to give a particular "look" to their film, often to evoke specific emotions or align with the visual aesthetic of the piece.

How to color grade in 5 steps:
  1. Normalize your folate as much as possible.
  2. Follow the steps to correct your colors.
  3. Choose your desired look and style.
  4. Make your color adjustments in your editing program of choice.
  5. Double check skin tones and vectorscope.
Some great options for both color grading and color correcting are these popular video editing programs:
  1. Adobe Premiere Pro
  2. Final Cut Pro
  3. Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve
  4. Magic Bullet Colorista
  5. Fylm.ai
Fig 5.1 quiz result (week 5)

Reflection:

For week 5, we learned the different of Color Correction and Color Grading. Color Correction is making footage look natural and consistent and Color Grading is Adding a stylistic, emotional, or cinematic look. Besides, we also learned about what is color theory. We understand that how artists use color to convey emotion, mood, and style.

Week 6 (29.10.2024)

Fig 6.1 quiz result (week 6)

For week 6, what we learned is Mise en Scène. It refers to everything within the frame that contributes to the visual storytelling, including the arrangement of actors, scenery, lighting, costumes, and props. It encompasses all the visual elements that contribute to the mood, atmosphere, and meaning of a scene.

Week 7 (5.11.2024)

Fig 7.1 quiz result (week 7)

Reflection:

For week 7, we start using Adobe Audition. We learned how to give audio different textures through tuning and make the audio echo by adding reverb. This is my first experience with these and I find them very interesting. Besides, I also learned about new software and how to use it effectively. This knowledge allows me to better improve myself.

Week 10 (26.11.2024)

Fig 10.1 process (week 10)

Fig 10.2 vfx video (week 10)

Reflection:

For week 10, we learned how to use After Effect. This is an additional knowledge. I learned more about the function of After Effect from this exercise and increased proficiency in After Effect.
