INTRODUCTION
EXERCISES
Exercise 1: Quantify & Visualize Data
For this exercise, we required to arrange objects with relevant indicators written out with pens to help us visualize the quantity and data.
Fig 1.1 Draft Design
Fig 1.2 Final Draft Design
I used sugar-coated candy to be my object, there got different color, flavour and version. For first, I am trying to flatten it to change its size but this changed the original form of the product. Based on feedback, I tried to find sugar-coated candies of different sizes, but most sugar-coated candies are not much different in size, making it difficult to distinguish the sizes at a glance. It is difficult for me to find items with significant size differences in a short period of time. So I changed the size to the flavor.
Fig 1.3 Final Outcome
Because the quantity and colors of sugar-coated candy are limited, some details may different from the draft.
Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H
For this exercise, we required to organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and utilizes the LATCH principles. (Location / Alphabet / Time / Category / Hierarchy)
All pokemon images and information were retrieved from https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/game/sun-moon#dex-poni-island
I chose Poni Island for the poster design.
Fig 2.1 Poni Island
Fig 2.2 Poni Island (After Adjustment)
The original image was too large to be used directly in a poster, so I made some adjustments. I removed the surrounding sea and smaller islands, keeping only the main island.

Fig 2.4 L.A.T.C.H 2
Fig 2.5 L.A.T.C.H 3
After putting all the information into the poster, I tried three different layouts and finally chose the third one as my final outcome. This island is mostly seawater and forest, so I used a blue and light green gradient for the poster's background.

FLIP TOPICS
Flip 1: Type of Infographic
Fig 3.1 Type of infographic by Group E, Green (PDF)
Re-designing an Infographic
During our flip class week 1, we required to find one poorly constructed infographic poster and re-design it using Canva.
Fig 3.2 Chosen poorly designed infographic
1. Too many font styles and font weights are used
2. It uses multiple colors, but lacks a clear categorization logic
3. Script style fonts reduce legibility
4. No sense of margins (no white space around the title)
5. Too much unnecessary information
Fig 3.3 Resign 1
Fig 3.4 Resign 2
I used only two colors to complete this redesign, a background color and a font color. All fonts are the same, only the size and bold different. Since it involves cleaning tasks from daily to annually levels so I thought of presenting it as a timeline.
My idea was to make the text cluster towards the center, so the text on the left aligned to the right and the text on the right aligned to the left. However, after aligning the text on the left to the right, the dots in front of the characters looked a bit weird, so I changed the text alignment to the left. I tried using a list without bulleted bullets, but that made it a bit more difficult to read.
Fig 3.5 Final Outcome
Based on the feedback, I adjusted the title layout and moved it to the right to avoid the right side being too empty. Also added some orange color to make the visuals a bit more exiting.
